Rare English Sterling silver mechanical rotating desk calendar, London 1930 Stockwell and Co. The calendar on plain moulded base; central rotating calendar of engine turned and polished plain silver. The silver calendar section rotates on a silver hinge and the date automatically changes to the following day when turned over. Vacant slot on front to add a name or day or month if desired. Measures: 2.60 x 2.20 x 1.50 inches. Item Weight: 103.41 grams. Fully hallmarked. Stockwell & Company was founded in 1878 by Henry Stockwell. In 1900 the firm was incorporated as a limited liability company Stockwell & Co. Ltd. George Stockwell was a nephew of Henry Stockwell. George succeeded Henry Stockwell to the management of the company. Stockwell & Company first registered at the London Assay Office four punches with the initials GS for George Stockwell, the Managing Director, on 15 June 1907. The address given was 16/18 Finsbury Street, London, EC, and the company was stated to be a ‘Foreign Agent Importer of Foreign Gold and Silver Watches’.
