Pair of Carl Poul Petersen Sterling Art Deco three light Candlesticks C.1935
Pair of Petersen Sterling Art Deco three light Candlesticks Candelabra Carl Poul Petersen Montreal C.1935. Exquisitely hand-wrought mounted on domed circular stepped bases, the central sections of three stylized scrolls each supporting a funnel conical shape candlestick each of a subtly graduated different height. Wonderful form and a design I have never seen or had by Petersen. They measure 6.75 inches high at the highest point and 6.20 inches at the lowest point. Total length is 7.50 inches. Diameter of base: 4.25 inches. Total weight: 927 grams. These are not loaded … solid sterling silver. Condition: Very good, recently polished and restored as original. Reflections from photography only. Petersen hand made Sterling marks to underside of bases. Petersen (1895-1977), married Georg Jensen's daughter and emigrated from Denmark to Montreal in 1929. First employed by Henry Birks & Sons, then founded his own firm, Petersen's three sons were his first apprentices. From 1947 onwards having become highly successful, the firm of C.P. Petersen & Sons employed 20 Silversmiths on their premises. Petersen closed their shop in 1979.
