Antique 19th century German solid silver large fruit dish, circa 1880, Probably Neresheimer & Co. Oval form in the style of the 16th-17th century silver, embossed with scrolling foliage, fruits and serpent handles. The hand embossed decoration is very fine, the dish bearing pseudo-marks typical of German Hanau silver, acid tested for Silver. Measures: 12 x 7.5 x 2.9 inches. Item Weight: 327.50 grams. B. Neresheimer & Sohne, Hanau, Germany are the best known of the Hanoi Silversmiths around the turn of the 19th century. The antique silver industry of Hanau specialised in excellent copies of old master silversmiths work, particularly Nuremberg pieces. These pieces were marked with fantasy marks, resembling old marks and were in a style reminiscent of 17th and 18th century maker's marks.
