Signed Spahr 1000. Height: 9 inches. Diameter of base: 2.75 inches. Condition: Very good. In 1937 Friedrich Wilhelm Spahr founded his own manufactory Spahr & Co. in Schwäbisch Gmünd. Spahr's early works show his very own design language in the Art Deco style. Typical is the perfect structure of relatively small and curved surfaces (e.g. vases) with completely surrounding, repetitive motifs (either purely abstract or with stylized, floral elements such as leaves and blossoms, but also birds, dragonflies, etc.).It was always Spahr & Co.’s own decorative designs. Spahr usually refined raw goods or biscuit-fired branded porcelain. Not only the surface decoration with silver, but also own color glazes and painting were carried out. There are also numerous objects with finely engraved areas of silver. All work steps together were extremely complex, which made the end products very expensive. It was thus never affordable mass-produced goods. Rather, they were exclusive one-offs or small series. The company was recorded as having closed in 1940.
